U Mobile Sdn Bhd was named the industry's "Rising Star" at the PC.Com Award 2011/2012. The award recognizes the company's zealous transformation and positive disruption in the market through its revolutionary product and service offerings.
Chief commercial officer of U Mobile Suresh Reddy was all smiles as he received the prestigious award from PC.Com, one of Malaysia's leading consumer technology magazines. U Mobile's effort in creating a niche within the ever-competitive telco space through the company's three-pronged strategy – expanding network infrastructure, strengthening its brand through innovative product offerings and widening distribution channels – helped secure this coveted title.
U Mobile's win was also driven by recent bold business and marketing strategies manifested through a string of firsts for the telco. In 2011, the company graced its broadband segment through its flagship 42mbps mobile broadband service. For prepaid, U Mobile wows with free calls, free SMS and zero roaming charges in Singapore. U Mobile also introduced a unique, all-in-one postpaid plan that combines voice, SMS and data services within one single package - ideal for first jobbers and young executives.
In addition, U Mobile inked Malaysia's first active 3G Radio Access Network sharing agreement with Maxis Berhad and carved a significant milestone for the company in August 2011 when it achieved one million subscribers.
The awards night, organised by Reach Publishing Sdn Bhd, was the culmination of an online survey conducted by PC.Com in honouring consumer technology and electronics brands that have captured the hearts and support of the public.
