Bicyclist dies in Questa accident

The Questa Police Department is investigating a fatal collision between an off-duty Taos County Sheriff's deputy and a bicyclist in Questa on Saturday.

Questa Police Chief Frank Gallegos said Deputy José Miera was driving toward Questa on N.M. 522 around 11:30 p.m. Saturday night when he hit and killed an as-yet unidentified man, who was riding a bicycle at the time. Gallegos said Miera was passing a vehicle when he struck the cyclist in the opposite lane.

The man died at the scene and Gallegos said that alcohol "does not appear to be a factor." Gallegos said Miera has not yet been charged or arrested, as the investigation is still under way. An accident reconstructionist has been called in to conduct a further investigation, Gallegos said.

N.M. police arrest frequent caller to FBI office

ALBUQUERQUE — Albuquerque police have arrested man who allegedly made hundreds of calls to the local FBI office, with the latest call being about an alleged bomb threat.

Authorities say Freddie Dilworth, 56, faces a bomb-scare charge after he called in a threat from a pay phone Sunday at an Albuquerque convenience store.

A criminal complaint says Dilworth made three calls to authorities saying there was a bomb in a truck headed to the local FBI office. Authorities realized he was the same man who had been hounding the FBI for some time.

The complaint says Dilworth has called the FBI office more than 200 times and Albuquerque police more than 30 times, claiming he is an FBI informant.

The FBI recently asked police to tell Dilworth to stop calling.

Boil water from Tecolote system, officials say

The New Mexico Environment Department's Drinking Water Bureau is urging users of the Tecolote Mutual Domestic Water Consumers Association Water System to boil their water after E. coli bacteriological contamination that exceeds the maximum contaminant level was found.

The department said people should boil water for five minutes before drinking, cooking, dishwashing and bathing. The E. coli in the water means it may have come in contact with sewage or animal wastes, and might contain disease-causing organisms.

The department said work is under way to disinfect the water system, which is 11 miles south of Las Vegas, N.M.
